Teaser Tuesdays – Unaccustomed Earth

This book is a compilation of short stories. Here I am sharing a couple of quotes from the first short story in the book. I started the story this morning and left it halfway to get to work. It’s so beautifully but simply written, I can’t wait to go back home and finish it.

Growing up, her mother’s example — moving to a foreign place for the sake of marriage, caring exclusively for children and a household — had served as a warning, a path to avoid. Yet this was Ruma’s life now.

And here’s the second one…

By allowing her to leave her job, splurging on a beautiful house, agreeing to have a second baby, he was doing everything in his power to make Ruma happy. But nothing was making her happy; recently, in the course of conversation, he’d pointed that out, too.
