Can’t Wait to see Life of Pi

I read Life of Pi by Yann Martel way back when it first came out in 2001. Aah, those were the carefree days when I read to my heart’s content and was actually able to get my hands on books as soon as they were published.

Anyway, I was unaware that Life of Pi was being made into a movie (which world am I living in?) until I chanced upon The Literary Bunny’s blog and saw that there was a trailer out.

As per Wikipedia, the movie is being directed by Ang Lee (he has previously directed two of my fave movies – Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Sense and Sensibility), the actor playing Pi is a newcomer Suraj Sharma, and the movie is due out in November 2012.

I just can’t wait to see how it will shape up. This is a rather difficult movie to film, and it could be just mind-blowingly awesome or mind-numbingly dull.

Based on the trailer here, how do you think it will shape up? I think it will all depend on how the end is handled.

I don’t feel great about this as a movie. The trailer bored me, and I feel like if the trailer couldn’t keep my attention, the movie can’t possibly have a chance. So I’m leaning toward dull. I agree with you that this would be a very difficult book to translate to the screen.

  2. I hope the movie will succeed in transferring the soul of the novel to the screen. I think you’re right that the ending can make or break the movie!

I have to admit I didn’t enjoy this book at all, but the movie looks like it will be stunning, a visual treat. So I’ll probably give it a chance!

You were not the last one to discover that Life of Pi is being made into a film, that was me >_< The trailer looks promising indeed. Ang Lee has made pretty good movies so far, I hope Life of Pi will be yet another one to grace his career. I will definitely have to read the book before the movie comes out…

@Chinoiseries: Glad I am not the only one LOL. Seriously though, it’s an awesome book, very simple and readable, but also meaningful. I’m just not sure how good a movie it will make though.
