I have read most Agatha Christie novels more than 3 times. The Poirot series is in particular my favorite, and my favorite book in the Poirot series has to be Death on the Nile. Something about the atmosphere, the claustrophobic emotions expressed by the main characters, the Egypt setting, and the skillful murder makes this one of her classics. Poirot is also at his most compassionate and humane best.
Definitely a book that I have read more than 3 times, and which I will probably read many more times again :).
What are your favorites that you go back to again and again?
Mine would probably be the Harry Potter series, my Enid Blyton books especially Malory towers series, St. Clare’s series, Five-find outers series and the faraway tree series. Another book I’ve re-read and loved each time is My Sister’s keeper by Jodi Picoult. From Agatha Christie, I think my favourite has always been ‘And then there were none’…I thought that was the most brilliant mystery ever!
My comfort read is ‘The Power of One’ by Bryce Courtenay. It traces the journey of Peekay from childhood to adolescence. His thirst for knowledge and absolute focus on boxing is such a joy to read about. The characters have distinct, vibrant personalities which shape the protagonists life and to a large extent affect us also. This is one book which I hold close to my heart and read countless times .

Like the new look of the blog.. I would have read the Mallory towers series more than three times.Agatha Christie novels make for nice cosy reads.
@Bhargavi: Oh, yes. Beloved Enid Blyton. I used to be so envious thinking about those cool towers. I always wanted to go to a school like that.
Don’t you think J.K Rowling was a bit inspired by Mallory Towers when it came to creating the 4 houses and the school descriptions and all? I always thought so.
Hmm, definitely need to pick up the Agatha Christies. I remember really liking Murder on the Orient Express and And then there were none…
@sharry: Yes, I find Agatha Christie books to be the coziest mysteries of all. But the best among those were when her detectives traveled to different places. The new environments somehow added tons more atmosphere to the mystery itself.
I have found Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Chokher Baali’ as a very good lesson in understanding human emotions, especially women. I have read it atleast seven – eight times! And still feel the urge to visit it again!
@Puja: I have never read any Tagore. So sad, somehow I never end up doing justice to Indian authors. Probably because I rely too much on my local library that just has one or two dedicated shelves to Indian writing 🙁
